Costume Resource Master post.

In my role as the Costume Fairy, I feel I should share my resources with others. This is where I am going to compile a list of my favorite costuming websites. This list will grow.

Rather than organize them, I am going to list them randomly for now. Use CTRL+F to find keywords in my descriptions, like "Victorian," or "Lolita," or "Superhero." I'm doing it this way because some of the sites would fit under multiple categories and I don't want to list them multiple times.

Please Comment on this post with suggestions for additions, or if you have a list of your own so I can link there!

recollections.biz/
Victorian, Civil War, Pioneer, Saloon, Edwardian, Old West, Roaring 20s
This is my FAVORITE site for Victorian things. I only own three items by them, but I covet like, EVERYTHING. These things are mostly made to order, so give lots of lead time! Lots of different colors for base and trim on most items.

www.gentlemansemporium.com, also ladiesemporium.com or steampunkemporium.com
Saloon, Victorian, Steampunk
I actually have never purchased from this site, but have always wanted to. They have pretty Victorian things for ladies and men. Use the Steampunk sections for fun brassy bits.

www.milanoo.com/
Lolita, superhero, pop culture, Victorian, gothic
I bought a Lolita dress from them once- prices are great. For Gothic or Victorian style dresses, check the higher end of the Lolita section, usually under gothic or classic lolita. You can also find a few dresses that I'm fairly sure they sourced from VON LANCELOT- for those who, like me, cried when Von Lancelot disappeared from ebay.

www.superherosource.com/
superhero
Recently discovered- basically, if it's a superhero costume currently on the market, this site sells it. Good selection of accessories! Belts with functional pouches! Lots of different kinds of superhero gloves! Boot covers galore!

www.riverjunction.com
Victorian, 1800s, Old West, Saloon
I think I was pointed here by [livejournal.com profile] captainecchi . Not familiar with their work, but it looks good, and I would trust any recommendation given to me by such a great costumer.

10/29/11 Note- that's just off the top of my head right now. I'll add more as I go through the bookmarks I have saved on my different browsers from different computers.

Updating.

This is a PSA that I'm doing an F-list purge. I hope nobody is offended if I remove you; it's not a reflection of what I think of you as a person. If we haven't spoken outside this lj in several years, that's a good indicator that we aren't close, and many of my entries will lack context for you.

Watch me tread the boards!

Come witness my triumphant return to the stage!

Watch me stand around and pretend to talk! And dance! And move things!

Or, more likely, come watch [livejournal.com profile] twilighttremolo and [livejournal.com profile] jh1230 have real parts.
They're playing Mr. Bingley and Jane Bennet in...

Pride And Prejudice
WHERE? Somerville Theatre, 55 Davis Square, Somerville, MA 02144
Here's a map of where to park: http://www.parksomerville.com/pdfs/davisparking_map.pdf

WHEN? Four nights only!
Friday, March 23rd at 8pm
Saturday, March 24th at 8pm
Friday, March 30th at 8pm
Saturday, March 31st at 2pm--MATINEE!

HOW MUCH? $15 in advance! Buy tickets online here! $20 at the door! If you can't buy your tickets ahead of time, let me know, I have some $5 off coupons left. These are only good for same-day, at the door ticket purchases. That way you can get in for the same as advanced ticket prices.

OPENING NIGHT PARTY- AND YOU'RE INVITED!

On opening night (Friday, March 23rd) we're having a special Zombie Bash--everyone is encouraged to dress up as zombies, have their faces painted in the lobby, and then join us for an After Party at the Joshua Tree (256 Elm St--about a block from the theatre).  (Um, maybe that's not the best night for some of you.)  But it's also my 5th anniversary with [livejournal.com profile] john_in_boston !

I hope you guys will come see my show. If you are coming from far away and don't want to drive home late, let me know, we may have crash space.

Update on costume requests:

Because it seems this wasn't clear:

If you live far away and want to request costuming, I will not make you pick up from or return to my house. I may not be able to bring the item you want, if it takes up a lot of room (like a large or oddly shaped prop that will not lie flat in my suitcase), but if you are requesting an item of clothing, or something that folds flat, I will bring it.

The pick up/drop off rule is for locals. Last year I packed a lot of clothing for people who lived in the Boston Metro area. If I had only packed stuff for the people who were far away, I would have had a lot more room in my suitcase.

I still need you to return the item to me directly after the game though.

That time of year again- Intercon costume requests.

If you have a costume request for Intercon, please list:
Game
Time Slot
Specific item OR
Costuming hint

If you have the following to lend and think it might fit me, I'd be obliged:
Any 1700s dress of relative classiness
Port Hidalgo
Saturday night

NOTES: If you're borrowing costuming from me, unless you are significant travel distance away from me, (like, over a 45 minute drive), then I expect you to make an effort to pick the costuming up at my house before the con. My luggage last year was ridiculous.

If a piece is being borrowed by more than one person, the person who needs it first must pick it up from my apartment in Somerville. Unless you're coming from really far away. If the piece is particularly small, I may make an exception and agree to pack it.

If you're borrowing something from me, I need you to return it as soon as your game is over, in case someone needs it for the next game.  If you're the last person borrowing a costume, I may ask you to return it to my house instead of at the con, because again, luggage. If you are returning it to my house, I expect it within a week.

If you can't work within those constraints, I may not be able to help you.

EDIT: Because it seems this wasn't clear:

NON-LOCALS ARE EXEMPT FROM THE PICK-UP/DROP-OFF EXPECTATION. (I'm not shouting, I just want to draw your eyes to this first and foremost.)

LARP Plug: Stars of Al-Ashtara

Dear friends,

Once upon a time I played in this game called Stars of Al-Ashtara, written by the same intrepid team who brought us Redemption, Elanthia, and who are soon to bring us Venezia.

Stars of Al-Ashtara was the first LARP I've played in that was set in an Arabian Nights setting. And oh, what a LARP. Plots! Intrigue! Danger! Romance! Wonders! INCREDIBLE production values! There was a whole bazaar of tents set up, there were lighting changes as the time of day changed, it was lovely, I adored it. There is so much else I want to say, but I don't want to spoil anything.

Here's the blurb from their website, www.lovers-madmen.com:

Just beyond the next dune on the Eastern horizon rises the gleaming city of Al-Ashtara, renowned for its exotic wares and exquisite tastes. There are whispers, however, that the Caliphate might be starting to unravel - a fact which has not escaped the notice of those who wish to take advantage of the weakening rule. Friend and foe alike cast their eyes towards the night skies, looking to read their destinies in the stars...and perhaps find the means to change their own fate.

Enter a world where allegiances shift like the desert sands; where the schemes are as intricate as the silks; and in the bustling marketplace, the only thing more elusive than the sweet smell of incense on the desert breeze is the band of thieves slipping between the merchants' stalls. The Stars of Al-Ashtara illuminate the enchantment, mystery, and danger that await you in an Arabian bazaar-where everyone has a secret.

Stars of Al-Ashtara is a traditional theater-styled larp of intrigue, romance, politics, secrets, wonder, danger, and more that brings together people of all walks of life in a setting that becomes more dangerous under the shadows of night.

Well, Stars of Al-Ashtara IS RUNNING AGAIN! At Brandeis, on Sunday, December 4th from 3-7pm.

If you're itching to get your LARP on, if you missed this the first couple of times round, if you aren't sure you can wait until Night 1002 at Intercon to wear your favorite harem pants, then please go sign up for this game. I had a pretty freaking amazing time, and I have loved every game this team has written.  Hell, I'd play it again if I could.

Sign up link and more info on the setting here: matthematics.ath.cx/ashtara/signup.html

Please feel free to repost all the places. I am going to crosspost this to the Brandeis LARP LJ Comm as well.

Okay, people. I need you to take this viral, and fast.

We know someone in upstate New York who needs a good custody lawyer ASAP. I'm not at liberty to go into details publicly, but this woman is very afraid that her abusive boyfriend is going to get sole custody of her young child.  She's presently being represented by a public defender who doesn't seem to care about the case, and she has very few resources left at this point. Her next hearing is on Thursday.

If you know a good lawyer in New York State who might be willing to take this case for a low fee or pro bono, or at least offer her advice or support, please let me know. If you don't know anyone, please repost this far and wide. As a mother and an abuse survivor, it makes me absolutely sick to my stomach to contemplate a child being left in the hands of an abuser.

I can be reached at kythryne@gmail.com if you have any leads or want to help.

The internet can work miracles. Let's go.
