I hope you guys will come see my show. If you are coming from far away and don't want to drive home late, let me know, we may have crash space.
Update on costume requests:
Feb. 17th, 2012 11:45 amIf you live far away and want to request costuming, I will not make you pick up from or return to my house. I may not be able to bring the item you want, if it takes up a lot of room (like a large or oddly shaped prop that will not lie flat in my suitcase), but if you are requesting an item of clothing, or something that folds flat, I will bring it.
The pick up/drop off rule is for locals. Last year I packed a lot of clothing for people who lived in the Boston Metro area. If I had only packed stuff for the people who were far away, I would have had a lot more room in my suitcase.
I still need you to return the item to me directly after the game though.

Time Slot
Specific item OR
Costuming hint
If you have the following to lend and think it might fit me, I'd be obliged:
Any 1700s dress of relative classiness
Port Hidalgo
Saturday night
NOTES: If you're borrowing costuming from me, unless you are significant travel distance away from me, (like, over a 45 minute drive), then I expect you to make an effort to pick the costuming up at my house before the con. My luggage last year was ridiculous.
If a piece is being borrowed by more than one person, the person who needs it first must pick it up from my apartment in Somerville. Unless you're coming from really far away. If the piece is particularly small, I may make an exception and agree to pack it.
If you're borrowing something from me, I need you to return it as soon as your game is over, in case someone needs it for the next game. If you're the last person borrowing a costume, I may ask you to return it to my house instead of at the con, because again, luggage. If you are returning it to my house, I expect it within a week.
If you can't work within those constraints, I may not be able to help you.
EDIT: Because it seems this wasn't clear:
NON-LOCALS ARE EXEMPT FROM THE PICK-UP/DROP-OFF EXPECTATION. (I'm not shouting, I just want to draw your eyes to this first and foremost.)

LARP Plug: Stars of Al-Ashtara
Nov. 7th, 2011 04:14 pmOnce upon a time I played in this game called Stars of Al-Ashtara, written by the same intrepid team who brought us Redemption, Elanthia, and who are soon to bring us Venezia.
Stars of Al-Ashtara was the first LARP I've played in that was set in an Arabian Nights setting. And oh, what a LARP. Plots! Intrigue! Danger! Romance! Wonders! INCREDIBLE production values! There was a whole bazaar of tents set up, there were lighting changes as the time of day changed, it was lovely, I adored it. There is so much else I want to say, but I don't want to spoil anything.
Here's the blurb from their website, www.lovers-madmen.com:
Just beyond the next dune on the Eastern horizon rises the gleaming city of Al-Ashtara, renowned for its exotic wares and exquisite tastes. There are whispers, however, that the Caliphate might be starting to unravel - a fact which has not escaped the notice of those who wish to take advantage of the weakening rule. Friend and foe alike cast their eyes towards the night skies, looking to read their destinies in the stars...and perhaps find the means to change their own fate.
Enter a world where allegiances shift like the desert sands; where the schemes are as intricate as the silks; and in the bustling marketplace, the only thing more elusive than the sweet smell of incense on the desert breeze is the band of thieves slipping between the merchants' stalls. The Stars of Al-Ashtara illuminate the enchantment, mystery, and danger that await you in an Arabian bazaar-where everyone has a secret.
Stars of Al-Ashtara is a traditional theater-styled larp of intrigue, romance, politics, secrets, wonder, danger, and more that brings together people of all walks of life in a setting that becomes more dangerous under the shadows of night.
If you're itching to get your LARP on, if you missed this the first couple of times round, if you aren't sure you can wait until Night 1002 at Intercon to wear your favorite harem pants, then please go sign up for this game. I had a pretty freaking amazing time, and I have loved every game this team has written. Hell, I'd play it again if I could.

Please feel free to repost all the places. I am going to crosspost this to the Brandeis LARP LJ Comm as well.

We know someone in upstate New York who needs a good custody lawyer ASAP. I'm not at liberty to go into details publicly, but this woman is very afraid that her abusive boyfriend is going to get sole custody of her young child. She's presently being represented by a public defender who doesn't seem to care about the case, and she has very few resources left at this point. Her next hearing is on Thursday.
If you know a good lawyer in New York State who might be willing to take this case for a low fee or pro bono, or at least offer her advice or support, please let me know. If you don't know anyone, please repost this far and wide. As a mother and an abuse survivor, it makes me absolutely sick to my stomach to contemplate a child being left in the hands of an abuser.
I can be reached at kythryne@gmail.com if you have any leads or want to help.
The internet can work miracles. Let's go.
If you've asked me to borrow costuming, or you'd like to ask me to borrow costuming, please post it in the comments here so I have a centralized place to keep track of costuming.
I'm going to date this to March 4th so it will be near the top of my posts until Intercon.

From their website (www.misteriosos.org):
Boston is a playground. Banditos Misteriosos is the city's mysterious playmate. We are an organization dedicated to bringing Boston alive with a slew of activities that are free, open to everybody and most importantly, just a little bit out of the ordinary. The Banditos have organized annual flashmobs for International Pillow Fight Day, annual Revolutionary Water Gun Battles, annual scavenger hunts in Boston, and, my favorite event, the Verry Merry Unbirthday Gift Swap this past December, where everyone had to bring a homemade gift and use recycled wrapping, and we played "Everybody with [X Characteristic] come to the center and keep swapping gifts for 30 sec!" until our gifts had been swapped dozens of times.
On July 17th, the Banditos are running a Choose Your Own Adventure event in lieu of their annual scavenger hunt, and they need volunteers to help run it!
( Official event info under the cut )
This event sounds awesome, doesn't it?
From the volunteer coordinator's email to me:
It's basically a big mystery that participants have to solve, with actors in the story scattered all over Boston. People have to go from person to person, gather clues, complete tasks, and solve the general mystery. We need extra people to play different parts in the story, act as go-betweens to make sure everything is flowing OK, do triage at the beginning, and probably some other bit stuff.
So, in LARP terms, we need some NPCs and AGMs!
If you're free on July 17th, and you're interested in helping out with an event that's meant to bring people together and have a lot of fun, please let me know, and I'll pass your contact info on to the volunteer coordinator.
$600/month. No security deposit, no broker's fee, no having to pay last month at the first month.
Move-in: 7/1. If you are looking for a 9/1 move-in, we'll consider it if you help us find a July-August subletter!
We'll post pictures soon, and we can arrange a showing with the guys who are still living there. They are pretty chill.
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
This left John and I open to look for 7/1 move-ins so we have a month to move-in.
And, miracle of miracles, the apartment below us is opening up for 7/1.
[UPDATE 5/24] SO WE'RE TAKING IT.
It's a 2-bedroom for $1600, and we already know and like the landlord.
I've sent some emails out to people who expressed interest in the past, but they are all just finished graduating and so I'm not sure they know what their financial situations will be in July.
We've been inside. While it isn't the luxurious mansion our current apartment is, it's still quite nice! Nice bathroom, definitely eat-in kitchen, nice sized bedrooms. Will post the pictures soon.
The details:
Cross-streets: Lowden and Broadway (Powderhouse Sq)
Distance from public transport: 15min walk to Davis, 20 to Porter. John does it in less time, but I'm slow and he has long legs. 89 and 80 bus right on our corner, 5-8 min to 94 and 96 bus.
Bedrooms: 2
Baths: 1
Rent total: $1600 (does not include utilities) You: $600/month, no security/broker's fees, only first month due at lease signing.
Lease starts: 7/1
Laundry: landlord owns a laundromat that is literally two houses down from us.
Parking: No off-street parking, as far as I know
Pets: we prefer none.
I really want this to be the most convenient move ever. Won't need a truck, won't even have to properly pack, will just bring my stuff down in armfuls. Now we just need a third person to make the financial part a cinch.
So, please please please, if you know anyone who is looking for a July lease, or even a July - August sublet, please let us know. If you are looking for a 9/1 move-in, we are open to that, but you'll get special consideration if you can help us find a July & August subletter!
We can't really afford anything even reasonably nice on our own, so we're looking for one housemate to share a two bedroom.
We want someone who:
-wants to live a ten minute walk from Porter or Davis, or other red line stops.
-can pay $600. More would open up our options some; we're currently looking in the $1500-$1600 range. Our ideal is $1000 from me and John. We can go up to $1100, but it'll be super super tight.
-is not necessarily a neat freak, but will always clean up their dirty dishes and food packaging, and won't leave crumbs or spills undealt with.
- is not a complete stranger. Will consider friend-of-a-friends if I meet and interact extensively. Seeing their current living arrangements also helpful.
-has no pets. it's easier to find a place when you don't have to beg a landlord to allow them, and it'll keep the place cleaner.
-will take turns with common area cleaning, including scrubbing the tub and whatnot
Is social, but keeps late-night activity mostly to weekends. I gots to sleep during the work week.
Geek would be good!
Here's what we're looking for in an apartment:
Two bedroom where the larger bedroom can hold two people and two people's stuff.
Large eat-in kitchen or a dining room. I'd like to be able to bring my big dining table.
Bathroom needs to contain a tub, not just a shower stall. I can't assume my muscle spasms will never come back.
In-building laundry, or a laundromat within one block.
Please boost the signal?
ALTERNATIVELY: if you have or know someone who has an established place already, and is willing to live with a drama-free couple and give us the master bedroom, please let us know!
Rides to 1897?
Feb. 22nd, 2010 03:34 pmSoooo,
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
"All your better deeds shall be in water writ, but this in marble" is a quote from a French play called Philaster. This was the line that John Keats is said to have used for the basis of his epitaph, "Here lies one whose name was writ in water."
The original quote implies that some awful thing will be what the character is remembered for, and all other memories of him will pale against it. For me, the concept is, existence is temporary. Memory is temporary.
All of the words in this journal, even, are writ in water. One day, I will lose interest and delete the whole thing, and if not, then at the very least, years after I'm dead, it will be deleted to make room on a server.
But it's not just, "Everyone will forget you," it's "everything is temporary, including these bad feelings, including this setback. This entry about how terrible you feel will feel silly six months from now when you're happy and feeling nostalgic and re-read your entries."
And that's it, really.
