So, some of my friends are founders/members of a group called Banditos Misteriosos.

From their website (
www.misteriosos.org):

Boston is a playground. Banditos Misteriosos is the city's mysterious playmate. We are an organization dedicated to bringing Boston alive with a slew of activities that are free, open to everybody and most importantly, just a little bit out of the ordinary.
The Banditos have organized annual flashmobs for International Pillow Fight Day, annual Revolutionary Water Gun Battles, annual scavenger hunts in Boston, and, my favorite event, the Verry Merry Unbirthday Gift Swap this past December, where everyone had to bring a homemade gift and use recycled wrapping, and we played "Everybody with [X Characteristic] come to the center and keep swapping gifts for 30 sec!" until our gifts had been swapped dozens of times.

On July 17th, the Banditos are running a Choose Your Own Adventure event in lieu of their annual scavenger hunt, and they need volunteers to help run it!

From the website:
Do you remember reading Choose Your Own Adventure novels when you were but a baby Bandito? You know, where you were given a choice of action at the end of each page of narrative and the decision you made informed the story that unfolded? Well, have we got a treat for you. We've created a story that unfolds in real time at locations across the city, and the decisions that you and your team make influence the story that you'll experience. A priceless Bostonian artifact has been stolen and it's up to you to gather the clues, interview the suspects, fulfill the challenges, and find it so that you may return it to its rightful owner.

Specifics:
- We ask that all participants register beforehand, so that we have some idea of numbers and teams. Fill out our handy dandy registration form and you'll be on your way! As before, teams of 8 to 10 people will be made on-site, so you don't have to worry about coming with a team.

>>Registration form

- This event isn't about competition, it's about creating a story with your teammates and solving the puzzle. As such there is no definite start time - teams will start their story on a rolling basis, from 1 to 2 pm. Feel free to show up anytime within this hour, and take your time with the mystery!
- You don't need to bring anything except for enthusiasm (and maybe bottled water, it'll be hot out).

This event sounds awesome, doesn't it?

From the volunteer coordinator's email to me:
It's basically a big mystery that participants have to solve, with actors in the story scattered all over Boston. People have to go from person to person, gather clues, complete tasks, and solve the general mystery. We need extra people to play different parts in the story, act as go-betweens to make sure everything is flowing OK, do triage at the beginning, and probably some other bit stuff.

So, in LARP terms, we need some NPCs and AGMs!

If you're free on July 17th, and you're interested in helping out with an event that's meant to bring people together and have a lot of fun, please let me know, and I'll pass your contact info on to the volunteer coordinator.

Ooh, I need to double-check my calendar but that sounds like a lot of fun.

Also, if you like the CYOA books, you should definitely read this detailed analysis and visualizations (http://samizdat.cc/cyoa/) of them.

Grar! That's when my dad's supposed to be visiting. If he changes his plans (they're not solid yet), I'm totally in on this!

I need to double-check my schedule to make sure I'm not busy that weekend. But otherwise, yeah.

I still haven't heard from anyone about this. If I'm not going to be a volunteer, I want to take part as a participant, so if that's the case, I'd like to know so I can sign up. But I'd much rather be a volunteer. Do you know if/when they're planning on contacting me?
